Gabriel's Story & A Message From A Mama's Heart

This past year has been a very difficult year for my son. He entered into our local public middle school having no idea what we were about to enter into.

After many phone calls from the principle that he needed to be picked up from school for running off they decided they could no longer have him in school and we were told they would have a teacher educate him from home while placing him on a waitlist for a private day school. There was no teacher available and my son went 3 months without any form of education from the school system. He finally got a virtual teacher and began his education (though extremely behind) when we were told that a private day school was ready to take him. We went to visit the campus only to scare my son with the peers being extremely loud and aggressive. My son has sensory issues and cannot handle loud noises.

I find it very wrong that my son cannot be in a public school environment because he is a distraction for other kids and a safety risk to himself (because of his running off) yet they are not able to provide an aid to help him communicate as to why he is wanting to run AND he is being forced to be in an environment that will distract his education experience and likely traumatize him. It breaks my heart that our special needs kids in our society are being segregated and manipulated to be molded into what society thinks is best for them. My son has not been treated as an individual rather a diagnosis and a name on a piece of paper. He is SPECIAL NEEDS, which means he has needs that are special from others and the only solution that has been given is for me to throw him into a pool of other children where he will once again not be seen or heard as an individual but as a disabled child that needs to be tamed like a wild horse.

I have found a private school that treats our special needs children as individuals, MOSAIC PATHWAYS, and is not funded by our government. I have 9,000 dollars to go before I can meet the tuition needs.

I am humbly asking for your support and help to give my son the education he deserves.
